Frequently Asked Questions
What is Morse code?
Morse code is a method of encoding text characters as sequences of dots (ยท) and dashes (โ). It was originally used for telegraph communication and remains popular in aviation, amateur radio, and as a fun way to send hidden messages.
How does Morse code work?
Each letter and number is represented by a unique combination of short signals (dots) and long signals (dashes). Letters are separated by a short pause, and words are separated by a longer pause. In text format, dots and dashes within a letter are separated by spaces, and letters are separated by / or |.
What characters does this tool support?
Letters A-Z (case insensitive), digits 0-9, and common punctuation including period, comma, question mark, apostrophe, exclamation mark, slash, parentheses, ampersand, colon, semicolon, equals sign, plus sign, hyphen, underscore, quotation marks, and at sign (@).
Can I listen to the Morse code?
Yes! Check the "Enable sound" option and click the Play button. The tool uses the Web Audio API to generate tones โ a short beep for dots (dit) and a longer beep for dashes (dah), with appropriate pauses between them.
Is this tool free and private?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up required. All conversion and audio generation happens in your browser. Your data never leaves your device.
