Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a strong password?

A strong password should be at least 12-16 characters long and include a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special symbols. The longer and more varied the characters, the harder it is to crack. A 16-character password with all character types has over 95^16 possible combinations.

How does the password strength meter work?

Our strength meter evaluates your password based on length, character variety, and entropy. It rates passwords as Weak, Fair, Good, Strong, or Very Strong. We recommend aiming for at least "Strong" for important accounts.

Are these passwords safe to use?

Yes! Passwords are generated entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure random number generator. The passwords are never transmitted over the internet or stored on any server.

Should I use a password manager?

Absolutely. We strongly recommend using a password manager (like Bitwarden, 1Password, or KeePass) to store your generated passwords. This allows you to use unique, strong passwords for every account without having to remember them all.

What does "Exclude similar characters" do?

When enabled, this option removes characters that look similar and can be confused when reading or typing: lowercase L (l), uppercase I (I), the number 1, uppercase O (O), and the number 0. This is helpful for passwords that need to be typed manually.

Is this tool free and private?

Yes, completely free with no sign-up required. All password generation happens in your browser. No password ever leaves your device.
