What is a QR code?
A QR (Quick Response) code is a 2D barcode that stores information readable by smartphone cameras. It can encode URLs, text, contact info, Wi-Fi credentials, and more. QR codes were invented in 1994 for automotive manufacturing but are now ubiquitous in marketing, payments, and ticketing.
What is error correction level?
QR codes have built-in error correction (Reed-Solomon coding). Higher levels allow the code to be read even if partially damaged or obscured. Low (7% recovery) is smallest, High (30%) is largest but most robust. Medium (15%) is the default and works for most use cases. When you add a logo, error correction is automatically set to High to ensure the code remains scannable.
Can I customize the QR code colors?
Yes! You can set custom foreground and background colors. For best scannability, use dark colors on light backgrounds with high contrast. Avoid inverting colors (light on dark) as not all scanners support it. The minimum recommended contrast ratio is 4:1. You can also use the Gradient style to apply a two-color diagonal gradient to the QR modules.
Can I add a logo to my QR code?
Yes! Upload a logo image using the "Upload Logo" button. The logo is automatically centered and sized to about 22% of the QR code, with a white rounded background for visibility. Error correction is automatically switched to High (30%) so the code remains scannable despite the logo covering part of the data. Logo-embedded QR codes can be downloaded as PNG.
What QR code styles are available?
Four styles are available: Standard (classic square modules), Dots (circular dots for data modules โ finder patterns stay as squares for scannability), Rounded (rounded-corner squares), and Gradient (two-color diagonal gradient). Styles can be combined with custom colors and logo embedding. Artistic styles are available for PNG download; SVG export uses the standard style.
Do artistic QR codes still scan correctly?
Yes, when proper error correction is used. The three finder patterns (corner squares) are always rendered as standard squares to ensure scanners can detect and align the code. For Dots and Rounded styles, only the data modules use the artistic rendering. We recommend using High (30%) error correction with artistic styles for the best scannability, especially when combined with a logo.
What's the maximum data capacity?
A QR code can hold up to 2,953 bytes of data (about 4,296 alphanumeric characters or 7,089 numeric characters). The actual capacity depends on the error correction level and data type. URLs are typically short enough to fit easily.
What barcode types are supported?
